Wai Chi Holdings’ sales volume for automotive backlight modules has firmly occupied the world’s number one position over the past two years, accounting for about 18% of the world’s total in the first half of 2022. The customer base is mainly from mainland China and other Taiwan-based panel manufacturers in addition to a number of top tier automotive suppliers

With the development of automotive intelligence in recent years especially the rapid penetration of new energy vehicles (NEV) around the world, the market demand for automotive displays and supporting automotive backlight modules has also increased as a result.

The backlight module is the light source component of the liquid crystal display which provides sufficient brightness and evenly distributed light source for the LCD panel. The backlight module directly affects the brightness, uniformity, picture quality and viewing angle of the LCD. The Mini LED backlight technology provides LCD with key indicators such as high dynamic contrast, high brightness, high color gamut, and low power consumption, helping LCD panels achieve important functional upgrades.

According to research by CINNO, in the first half of 2022, the sales of new energy passenger vehicles in the China market increased by 128% year-on-year to nearly 2.5 million vehicles with the penetration rate as high as 24%, an increase of 13 percentage points year-on-year. At the same time, the new energy vehicle penetration rate was close to 11% globally, an increase of 4 percentage points Affected by the continuous growth in sales of new energy vehicles, the trend of multi-screen, large-screen and display technology diversification is booming for on-board displays, and the shipments of matching backlight modules have also grown steadily. In this context, many backlight module companies are making continuous development specifically in the automotive field

The global automotive backlight module manufacturers mainly include Wai Chi, Ways Electrons, Minebea Mitsumi, Handamei, Dixian and other companies; plus some LCD panel manufacturers are equipped with resources to support their own backlight module supply. According to the survey data of CINNO Research, the top five automotive backlight module companies in the global automotive backlight module shipments in the first half of 2022 are Wai Chi, Ways Electrons, Yourshine, Epoch Optics, and BOE Optoelectronics Technology
